Races & Other running events
Many of the club members regularly take part in races throughout the year, locally, across the country, and even abroad!
We want you to shout about your participation in races and running events, and we will regularly celebrate these in our Shoutouts newsletter. To tell us about what you have done - be it a success, near miss, or abject failure(!) - email a summary and any pictures to shoutouts@squirrels.run or DM Hannah Walley on Facebook.
Below you can find a selection of our favourite events, as well as information about three league competitions we take part in.

EMGP
The East Midlands Grand Prix is a series of events that typically take place weekday evenings around, you guessed it, the East Midlands. Some of our runners take part in these. You can enter the entire series or just individual races.
DRXC
Squirrels are in the Derby Runner Cross Country League (DRXC). This is an inclusive league
suitable for runners of all abilities - as an example, at a recent race some of the female runners were averaging 15:00 minute mile pace at Grace Dieu - 5ish miles. Races typically cost £6-8 each. More information at https://www.derbyrunnerxc.co.uk/
LRRL
The Leicestershire Road Running League holds races starting in spring and ending in autumn, and from the 2025 season onwards Squirrels are a member of the league. Despite the perception that league races are for "faster runners", the reality is that a wide range of abilities takes part, and there is a fun atmosphere on the day with all the regional clubs in attendance. However, races sell out quickly so watch out for posts on Facebook advertising on-sale dates (we will post these in our Members group but also join the Leicester Runners Facebook group as well as the LRRL page). Be prepared to set an alarm on your phone and snap up an entry the moment they go on sale.
