What is the Santa Dash & Dawdle?

The Santa Dash & Dawdle is a fun, festive event organised by Squirrels Running Group. Whether you fancy running, jogging or taking a leisurely stroll, this event is all about getting together, spreading Christmas cheer and enjoying an active morning with friends, family and fellow runners.
When is the event?
The Santa Dash & Dawdle will take place on Sunday 6th December 2026, starting at 10:30am.
Where will the event take place?
The event will start and finish at The Green in the village centre of Broughton Astley, outside the George and Dragon and Conservative Club.
What is the difference between the Santa Dash and the Dwadle?

The Santa Dash is aimed at those who would like to run or jog the route, while the Dawdle is a more relaxed option for anyone who prefers to walk, chat and enjoy the festive atmosphere. Both are about having fun and taking part at your own pace.
Do I need to be a member of the running club?
No, the Santa Dash & Dawdle is open to everyone.
Do I have to run the whole route?
No, you can run, jog or walk the route at a pace that feels comfortable for you.
How far is the event?
There is a 3K or a 5K option. There will be a point mid way where you can choose to carry on for 5K or finish at 3K.
Do I need to wear a Santa costume?

Your event entry includes a festive santa t-shirt and santa hat but you're welcome to wear your own outfit if you wish. Christmas jumpers, festive fancy dress and tinsel are all encouraged! Please make sure your outfit is safe and comfortable for running or walking.
Can children take part?
Children are welcome to take part. Any children under the age of 11 must be accompanied by an adult and the adult must stay with them for the duration of the event. Children of all ages must have parental permission. Please see the registration form for more details.
Can I bring my dog?
Unfortunately no dogs are permitted to take part in the event.
Can I run or walk with a pushchair or buggy?
Yes! The event is accessible for all the family.
Is the event suitable for beginners?
Yes! The event is designed to be welcoming and enjoyable for all abilities. Whether you are taking your first steps into running or simply want to enjoy a festive walk, you are very welcome.
Are their toilets at the start and finish?
Sorry, there won't be any toilets available at the event.
How do I register?
You can register through EventEntry. Please complete your registration before the closing date to secure your place.
How much is the entry?
Adults or children over the age of 15: £15 Children aged between 5 and 15: £10 All paid entries receive a t-shirt, santa hat and medal. Children under 5: free Free child entries receive a santa hat and medal.
Is the event raising money for charity?
Any profit made from the event will be donated to this year's club charity Young Lives VS cancer which is a charity that supports children, young people and their families diagnosed with cancer.
How do I collect my tshirt before the event?
Please collect from the Squirrels Running Club team on the following dates: White Horse Car Park: Wednesday 25th November, 5:30-6:15pm, Monday 30th November, 5:30-6:15pm Conservative Club: Saturday 5th December, 5:00-6:00pm (during the village Christmas Fayre) Please also follow our Facebook page as we may offer more collection dates nearer the time.
What should I wear?
Please wear comfortable running or walking clothes and suitable footwear. As the event takes place in December, warm layers and weather-appropriate clothing are recommended.
What happens if the weather is bad?
The event will go ahead in typical winter weather. However, if conditions become unsafe, the organisers may need to amend, postpone or cancel the event. Any changes will be communicated through our website, social media channels and on email.
Will there be first aid available?
Yes St John's Ambulance are supporting us on the day and will be at the start/finish area. Many of our running club volunteers also have basic first aid training and there are defibrillators located around the village.
Is there parking available?
Parking is available at the White Horse Pub, Broughton Astley CO-OP, Frolesworth Road Park and other places in the village. Please allow plenty of time to park and make your way to start line. Where possible, we encourage participants to car share or walk if you live in the village.
Will there be refreshments?
The George and Dragon pub will be selling turkey cobs and there will also be a tea and coffee van. Squirrels Running Club will be providing squash and a mince pie/biscuit at the finish for everyone who takes part and marshalls.
Can I volunteer at the event?
